Description

Estonia has taken in nearly 30 000 refugees from Ukraine within two and a half months and the number is growing daily. National Social Insurance Board organizes psychosocial support for refugees in Estonia and is responsible for training, equipping, and supporting other psychosocial support providers. In case help and support for people is timely and available, it will help prevent and alleviate later suffering and the development of post-traumatic stress disorder.Currently psychosocial support is provided in different locations – accommodation centres, distribution points, and border crossing

Summary of the results

Activity 1A (war) trauma training programme was created and distributed: https://www.palunabi.ee/et/psuhholoogilist-traumat-arvestav-praktika  With the cut-off date of 08.11.2023, 266 people have completed the course (but the number of registered people was 1155).

Activity 2: Mental health aid measures such as covision (group counselling), individual supervision sessions, and other supporting interventions were provided. In group supervision sessions there were 134 participants from 8 different organisations (altogether 21 group sessions). 29 people used the individual supervision session possibility (altogether 57 separate sessions).

Based on the feedback to the e-course and to those who received supervision, the project can be considered successful and extremely necessary and supportive of the impact.

Additionally in order to address the decision-makers and managers of organizations operating in the field, two events were conducted introducing trauma-informed practice: 1) development day for representatives of organizations providing first aid (6.10.2023) and 2) additionally a mini-seminar online (13.10.2023) to support awareness of the e-course and guide institutions to support and distribute the e-course. In total, nearly 200 participants took part in the events, who act in leading roles as team and department heads, as development and quality managers and in other related positions.
