Description

The main aim of the bilateral initiative between FGMRI and NINA is to synthesize and provide an overview of the main causes of the black grouse population decline in the Czech Republic. Our aim is to get a better understanding of the potential of further impact in newly formed habitats in forest stands endangered by the recent bark-beetle outbreak. The second aim of the project of our research team is to get familiar with black grouse population biology, management, and monitoring in Norway. Our research team learns about the possibility of monitoring, population density estimation, and

Summary of the results

The realization of this project fundamentally helped us to establish bilateral cooperation with the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA). Our Czech team (FGMRI) provided information about the loss of suitable habitats in mountain areas of the Czech Republic, our Norwegian partners (NINA) explained the options of Black Grouse population management, monitoring, and possible improvement of Black Grouse population density and also presented natural habitat of Black Grouse during the field trip. We plan that Norwegian experiences will be used in the transformation of potentially suitable ecosystems in the Czech Republic. Thanks to this initiative we created materials for further project activities and we believe that we will be able to establish long-term cooperation. These activities would be aimed at the reintroduction, conservation, and management of Black Grouse in the Czech Republic and the monitoring and management of Black Grouse in Norway. During our personal meeting, we also showed Norwegian researchers habitats, where it is planned to reintroduce Black Grouse to the Czech nature and we discussed potential difficulties together. The publication activities in impacted journals are also the aim of our future cooperation.
