Description

The aim of this bilateral cooperation was an exchange of knowledge, respectively transfer of Icelandic know-how in the application of the specific methodological procedures used in the national forest inventory and transfer of the latest technological procedures for collection, storage and management of inventory data. The Icelandic partner learned a lot in terms of streamlining data management, securing data and improving methods for reporting. The promoter learned about know-how and software to a complex and large dataset. During this process they will have deeper understanding of the

Summary of the results

Bilateral cooperation brought Czech final beneficiary, Monitoring and Mapping Ltd. (IFER), a very interesting and important knowledge of Iceland''s national forest inventory methodology and the use of Field-Map technology in harsh conditions. This knowledge will help to understand the specifics of data collection under different conditions and contribute to improving Field-Map technology for all users. Building of a merged central database, implementation of control scripts and automatic parameterization, and any further development by IFER will improve and accelerate the quality of the data collected by Icelandic project partner, Icelandic Forest Research (IFR) and simplify the final statistical processing and interpretation. The main challenge of cooperation was to unify 15 databases with different structures. IFER will capitalize on the knowledge gained from working together to further develop Field-Map technology, and IFR (Icelandic project partner) will use the database, scripts and all the features developed during this initiative in its NFI (National Forest Inventory) program. IFER and IFR expressed their willingness to continue working together and focus on automating the processing of  national forest inventory statistics.
