Description

There are around 4000 people living on the streets in Bratislava. The objective of the project is to establish first Low threshold Day Care and Integration Centre called DOMEC in Bratislava for homeless people. DOMEC offers wider scale of services: hygiene, clothing, food and drinks up to very specific counseling and assistance that helps to full integration of the clients into society (permanent living, job placement, and social network). Project has a high ambitions to provide (12 months period) 18 800 clients daily access to Centre, 3 100 social advisements, 280 clients involvement in leisure time activities, 100 clients involvement in work activities and 12 clients who successful completed whole integration process. The project targets homeless people, 50 professionals from other NGOs that benefit with know-how, materials and seminars providing by Norwegian partner. Salvation Army Norway helps to NGO Vagus gain new skills and methods in work with homeless people in Bratislava.

DOMEC offers wider scale of services: hygiene, clothing, food and drinks up to very specific counselling and assistance that helps to full integration of the clients into society (permanent living, job placement, and social network). Project had a high ambitions and they provided till end of Octobre: 26 032 clients access to Centre, 4 817 social advisements, 258 clients involvement in leisure time activities, 207 clients involvement in work activities and 16 clients who successful completed whole integration process. They prepared materials of good practices from Salvation Army Norway and NGO Vagus. Both organizations each other inspired by their work and some inspiration on both sides have already transferred to practice.

Summary of bilateral results

Salvation Army Norway is a partner with a long-term tradition as a service provider for homeless people. Functional partnership helped to NGO Vagus to gain new skills and methods in work with homeless people in Bratislava. Both partners offers examples of good practise in street work, experiences how to involved local community which has negative feedback on creating day Centre in Bratislava and lectures for broader group of professionals. The partnership included: mutual work trips focused on exchange experiences, creation of the material containing examples of good practise of both partners, implementation of experiences of the Norwegian partner in work with local community, which has negative feedback on creating project DOMEC near their homes ("Not in my back backyard phenomenon") and public lecture lead by Norwegian partner in Slovakia for 36 (expert) participants.
