Description

The aim of the project of the restoration of the upper courtyard of the Lupca Castle. Drainage of the upper courtyard resolves one of the major technical problems of the long lasting dampness of the castle walls, their degradation and deterioration. By the renewal of the upper courtyard it will create another refurbished, comprehensive part of the castle - a beautiful historical complex of the castle, which will provide space for a variety of cultural, social and educational activities. The project will extend the exposition space of the castle complex, create space for exhibitions of regional, national, and international artists, create space suitable for organizing of historical reenactment performances (e.g. fencing) and demonstrations of folk handcrafts, as well as for organizing enjoyable evenings of classical music concerts and space full of ancient atmosphere, attractive to visitors longing for history in one of the best preserved castles in Slovakia. The restoration will directly and indirectly contribute to employment.

Summary of project results

The overall aim of the project was the restoration of the Upper Castle (upper courtyard) of the Lupca Castle. Through the reconstruction and restoration of the upper courtyard the cultural tourism shall be strenghtened and the importancy of this national cultural monument accesible to public promoted. During the project a chain of activities was carried out: - the drainage of the upper courtyard was done, it resolves one of the major technical problems of the long lasting dampness of the castle walls, their degradation and deterioration. Total surface of 333m2 has been drained, - restoration of the paving of the upper courtyard - total surrface of 333m2 was paved with the stone, - restoration of all wallings and facades of the upper courtyard, total surface of 594m2 facedes was reconstructed, - restoration of Maria Séči Hall. The renewal of the upper courtyard created another refurbished, comprehensive part of the castle - a beautiful historical complex of the castle, it provides space for a variety of cultural, social and educational activities. The project extended the exposition space of the castle complex, created space for exhibitions of regional, national, and international artists, created space suitable for organizing of historical reenactment performances (e.g. fencing) and demonstrations of folk handcrafts, as well as for organizing enjoyable evenings of classical music concerts and space full of ancient atmosphere, attractive to visitors longing for history in one of the best preserved castles in Slovakia. The restoration also directly contribute to the increase of the local tourism and number of castle visitors.
