Description

Our main objective is to increase awareness, knowledge and education, more sensitive and mobilize the public, including youth, empowerment of vulnerable Roma in Presov and other group members, building greater confidence of the group members and their conscious and courageous enforcement is. The activities that the project with provide is; Cycle informal educational activities at individual schools and the community center in Old Brickyard Prešov-project, that will begin an educational activity in schools, which should arouse the interest of children and youth on sports day. Secondly the selection of children and youth in the camp of football talent-the project aims to achieve maximum participation from persons marginalized Roma community. Our third activity is to establish a sports and cultural program.

Summary of project results

Currently, many sporting talents from among the Roma ethnic group do not have a real chance to start a professional career in sports. It is because sports clubs membership requires a high financial investment repayable only in later phases. Lack of funds is also a limiting factor that causes inability to participate and to carry out sports activities. Sports are therefore inaccessible for children from marginalized Roma communities. Our project’s goal was to overcome these obstacles and put talented Roma children in touch with football clubs. Given the environment where the Roma children grow up, it was necessary not only to educate the children about the sport, but also to revive in them a sense of belonging, the spirit of fair play, team work and respect for one another. Target groups of the project and of the beneficiary groups were involved in lectures and discussions. They participated in trainings - some for the first time in such sports hall. Finally, it should be stressed, that the highlights of the project activities were the sporting and cultural events, which the children prepared and very much enjoyed. This realization of the first football camp and the first annual football tournament was a success. We wish to continue to implement these activities with the financial support from the public and private sectors. In conclusion it can be stated that the Roma children and youth showed not only athletic talent, the spirit of fair play and solidarity, but also the sense of living together which was the leitmotiv of the whole event.
