Description

Due to the fact that within the framework of our activities at the local level we face problems of racial intolerance and other forms of intolerance which have a significant impact on children and youth, we decided to open this topic among the young, discuss it, and work with a variety of activities that could improve the situation positively. The main objective of this project is therefore to strengthen skills and increase awareness and knowledge of children and youth in selected locations in the topic of discrimination, racism and other forms of intolerance. Involved children and youngsters dhsll jointly identify the problems and respond to traditional stereotypes and discriminatory situations, which are in their surroundings and daily life. Implementation of the project will therefore take place in areas where we have worked longtime and micro-regions in the following towns and villages: Roškovce-Doľany, Sveržov, Prešov, Petrovany. The expected outcome of the project will be conscious youngsters, able to respond to stereotypes and discriminatory situations in their community that will continue to spread the ideas of tolerance and fight against all forms and manifestations of intolerance. The main target group of the project will be directly involved in its activities, the main objective is to increase the skills and abilities to fight against manifestations of intolerance and discrimination.The primary target group are children and youth aged 10-17 years in selected sites Prešov region that are members of the Roma minority. These children and youths will be directly involved in project activities that will be implemented, and through the project to acquire new skills and knowledge in the topic of discrimination, racism and other forms of intolerance, and will be able to confront and combat stereotypes and expressions of intolerance.

Summary of project results

The project ensures that young people engaged in activities are capable of defining problems of intolerance and discrimination and to deal with them. They will continue to use these skills and knowledge in their daily lives. We continue in working with youth groups, especially through community development work and by supporting community organizing. We are using photo exhibition for other types of events, published comics and newspaper we use in prevention and education. They are source of inspiration for others, who are working in this topic. We distribute them further to educational institutions, so they can also be used in the educational process. The main objective was to strengthen skills and increase awareness and knowledge of children and youth in selected locations in the theme of discrimination, racism and intolerance. We achieve the goal by creating youth groups, providing them with new knowledge and supporting their skills. Through targeted training and regular activities young participants has identified the main problems in the topic at the local level and implemented actions designed to address them. Community organization contributed to spreading awareness and overcome conventional stereotypes. Impact of the project is especially significant in change of thinking about discrimination and reduce prejudice among youngsters, which enables them to respond to the stereotypes and discriminatory situations more efficiently. They propagate tolerance, and they can argue against manifestations and forms of intolerance. Important impact is civic activation of wider community and residents of localities, thus overcoming the stereotypes and prejudices that are the basis of mutual intolerance. Interesting project outputs was creation of peer groups that meet regularly and tackle objectives of their training. They launched two issues of electronic newspapers and comics. They also created a touring photographic exhibition, where they present their views on the issue. The main target group were Roma children and youth from selected communities in Prešov region. They have been directly involved in project activities, which gave them skills and abilities to fight manifestations of intolerance and discrimination. In addition, the involvement of the wider community and the public improved the environment at the local level and helped to decrease level of stereotypes that divide people.
