Description

The issue of gender equality (GE) is often missing in discussions about democracy. Moreover, GE is nowadays partly framed as an anti-democratic value in Slovakia and even discussions framing GE in a positive way are often accompanied by ambiguities and lack of comprehensive and differentiated understanding. Thus, sufficient level of gender competence (GC) is still missing in the attempts to implement the principles of GE. Therefore, the main objective of the project was to stress the inevitability of gender equality for democracy, as we have emphasized since the early 90’s. In the project, we accomplished all planned activities (and even some more) to continue our longstanding work in increasing GC of the society. This objective was reached through two publications (available in public libraries, sent to people and institutions with multiplication potential – academy, NGOs, state administration, we keep on spreading them); archive of materials mapping the gender aspects of political participation; several events (broad public participated thanks to diverse thematic focus, we keep on organizing events); specialized library (relevant literature, consultations, counseling – remains in service); web pages (inform about important GE issues; remain in service). The beneficiaries were addressed via internet (web, fb, and newsletter), other media, and personal communication and they took part in the project directly as volunteers or indirectly as visitors of the events, webpage and library, they received the newsletter, publications etc. The main benefits of the project were further broadening the issue of feminisms and gender equality, mostly by the analytical category of class, as well as the maintenance of these topics vital and differentiated in the public discourse.

Summary of project results

We accomplished all the planned activities (even some more). We´ve continued in our longstanding work in increasing gender competence (GC) of the society by two publications (avail. in public libraries, sent to people and instit. with multiplier potential – academy, NGOs, state administr., we keep on spreading them); events (broad public participated thanks to diverse thematic focus, we keep on organiz. events); specialized library (relevant lit., consult., counsel.; remains in service); web pages (inform about import. GE issues; remain in service) The term GE is often missing in discussions about democracy. The GE is nowadays partly framed as an anti-democratic value. Even discussions supporting GE are often accompanied by ambiguities and lack of comprehensive and differentiated understanding. Thus, sufficient level of GC is missing in the attempts to implement GE. The project meant significant contribution to the knowledge base (publ., web); it differentiated and made visible some GE issues (events, also in the National Theatre); contributed to enhancing GC (events, library, consult., counsel., volunt.). TGs – addressed via internet, other media, publications and personal communication. Individuals participated via events, competitions, volunt., membership in the library, articles on the webpage. We keep on addressing TGs. We found the cooperation well; temporary problems were caused by communication about administrative changes in the end of the project.
