Description

The project implementation is supposed to contribute to the solution of climate changes in the region at local level. The objective of the project is increasing public environmental awareness in adaptation to climate change issues. It is expected that the project will create a system of environmental education curricula focused on climate change and rainwater management, as well as publishing project information to the public through the Internet. The project is going to achieve its goals by creating and promoting plans focused on rainwater management. Students from different classes of the school will be involved in the project, and proper teaching methods will ensure that the target group will also influence the attitude of their parents and siblings outside educational institution and thereby achieve a synergy effect.

Summary of project results

Through the project, we aimed to teach our students what impact climate change can have on the life of a human being and the ways we can partially eliminate them. The goal of our project is educating students about the climate and prevention of floods and drought. Through adaptive measures, we increased awaren ess and knowledge of students in the area of adaptation to climate change. On campus, we have built a natural garden, which is open to public. Through presentations and concrete examples, students are relaying their experiences and information gained through the project to the garden visitors. Students as well as teachers are spreading and passing on their thoughts and practical experiences they have gained with the goal of calling the public’s attention to the problem of climate change which needs to be actively addressed. The project is part of a long-term school strategy dedicated to environmental protection and climate change aimed at pupils both in the learning process and in practical training. In the future we will be seeking additional funding to develop the results of the project. All activities of the project were realized in an interesting and innovative form for handicapped pupils, which we want to motivate this way to address the themes of climate change and environmental protection even after graduation in our school. The following outputs were implemented: Rainwater storage tanks - 12 pieces. Rainwater flowed into the drainage system. By securing the containers we catch the water and we use it for watering the surrounding greenery so we do not burden the environment with the drainage water and save the drinking water. Fruit trees - 12 pieces. We did not have fruit trees in the school garden. By planting fruit trees, the pupils learned to look after trees, recognize trees, use the fruit of trees, properly process and store fruits. Live fence - 5 packs. Traditional live fences are inedible. Pupils could also get familiar with an edible fence. Edible berries can be used for example to a compote or jam. Flower seeds - 10 packs. Flowers in the garden have revived the traditional lawn. Grass seeds - 20 packs. The revitalized lawn beautifies the garden where various artifacts are found. Educational material – 12 pieces.
