Description

The benefit of this project is the heightened quality of education through linking theory with practice and promoting interest among students in global issues.The participation of students in changes on their school campus develops their relationship with the environment. The ambition of the project is to transform the school into a natural educational centre for the local community. The aim is to create a stimulating environment for various activities for young people through a discussion on various topics with teachers and invited experts to enhance knowledge on adaptation and mitigation of the impacts of climate change on flood and drought prevention. The result of the project will be a design of appropriate types of measures to capture rainfalls through climate change adaptation implemented on campus. The main target group are the students of The Secondary Technical School and primary school pupils from Kosice. The partnership achieves the dissemination of information on activities carried out and contact through the Internet. There will also be a school website and a mutual exchange of knowledge on plants and animals in the natural terrain.

Summary of project results

The Secondary Technical School in Košice is located in the historical centre in the Peace Marathon Square, which is characterized by increased dust, noise and lack of greenery. It consists mainly of asphalt and concrete surface without infiltration or evaporation of water from the free surface or through vegetation. It is historically based that once at these sites there were orchards. The current situation, which is a consequence of the decision of our ancestors, we decided to change and replace the section of asphalt surfaces for the greenery.The benefit of this project was the quality of education by linking the theory with the practice, promoting interest among students about global issues. The participation of students in changes of the school campus develops their relationship with the environment and to their "alma mater". It improves the relationship between teacher - parent - student and creates a zone of relax. In the long-term aspect, the realization of the project leads to harmonization of economic benefits permanently sustainable development and culture. Our ambition of the project, which was aimed at increasing awareness and education on adaptation to climate change, was to transform the school into a natural educational centre of the local community. Our intention within the project was to upgrade the School educational program and implement education on adaptation to climate change as a cross-cutting theme in several school subjects. All the indicators were fulfilled during the project implementation, adaptation measures as well as improved curricula. The aim was to encourage innovative thinking among pupils who as graduates enter the labour market and will promote the implementation of innovative technologies in the production that protect natural resources.
