In Slovenia, we currently do not have any form of professional aid for dementia sufferers at home The goal of the project is to organize a group of caregivers that will provide aid at home for 30 families with persons with dementia. Our expected results based on the project goals are 4 workshops each with at least have 15 attendants, education programme and textbook and actions for raising public awareness of dementia. The activities are: preparation of the education programme, preparation and print of a text book about providing aid to patients with dementia at home, development of educational website, raising public awareness of dementia related problems and carry out a pilot project of educational workshops and organizing a group for aid at home.
Summary of project results
This was the first professional aid for dementia patients at home. The goal of the project was to train a group of caregivers that will provide assistance to dementia patients at home - this group has a good knowledge on how to deal with this patients, their relatives and how to gain trust from all included. A comprehensive training was organized for this purpose and materials developed. A series of workshops was organized and a group of volunteers trained. By the end of the project they only started with the home visits, but they will continue to provide this kind of support even after the project. A great emphasis was on awareness campaign and promotional material was developed.
Summary of bilateral results
The main cooperation with Ageing and Health was in the preparation phase of the trainings and materials. They provided their textbooks and wrote a chapter for Slovenian version of it. They also provided support and mentorship for other aspects of training.
