Description

Cancer is the 2nd cause of death for people aged between 1-14 years. Romania registers 400-500 new cases of malignancies in children per year and approx. 5,000 patients with evolving diseases, during a treatment stage or post-therapy follow-up period. About 30.04% of them are Roma children. The survival rate and even the cured child cancers percentage have increased in Romania too, so that the number of survivors that require lifetime monitoring is continuously growing. Equipping the infrastructure of regional centers nationwide and the training of specialists in the field of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology is a priority for pediatric healthcare and also a necessity for implementing the European medical standards in Romania. The main expected results are: acquiring medical equipment (MRI machines, remote monitoring system, anesthesia devices, CT machine, criocylinder for liquid nitrogen supply and storage, apparatus for dispensing plasma levels, osteodensitometer, a toxicological analyzer, etc), 289 specialists trained on pediatric hematology and oncology, information, education and communication campaign for pediatric oncology and hematology.
