Description

At the moment, the citizens of Vatra Dornei only benefit from a day care service for children 0 to 3 years old that can only host 30 children from economically and socially disadvantaged families (low income and roma families.) According to the official data, there are 560 children aged 0 to 3 years old in Vatra Dornei. Therefore, a lot of women that cannot afford professional private services and do not have the support of an extended family, choose to end or interrupt their career. The main objectives of the project are: 1. improving the work life balance of the citizens in Vatra Dornei by setting up the day care center, that will host 30 children aged 0 to 3 years old 2. increasing the degree of information and awareness in regard to gender mainstreaming and gender equality for the citizens in Vatra Dornei, especially for the Roma citizens 3. Increasing the quality of social and educational services delivered by the Municipality of Vatra Dornei. The day care center set up through the project will host 30 children, out of which 7 are of Roma ethnicity. The role of the partner is to contribute with its experience and expertise in the information and awareness activities.

Summary of project results

VatraDornei Municipality opened a center for 30 children, out of which 7 Roma, through a grant of 209.570 euros. The children, aged 0-3 years old, benefit in the new refurbished center of activities designed specifically for their needs, meeting current standards and allowing parent reinsertion on the labor market. The promoter also held ainformation campaign on gender equality and work-life balance and exchange of good practices in the field of child protection and care,anda workshop and seminars were held together with the project partners (IDEL). Issues raised for debate: gender equality, reconciliation of work and family life, fighting discrimination, and child care issues for children between 0 and 3 years of age. Following these activities, guides for local public authorities and social partners on reconciliation of work and family life and guides of good practice on gender equality and the reconciliation of work-life balance were developed. The documents developed in the framework of the exchange of good practices (2 guides and a brochure) have sections on the social inclusion of Roma, the importance of integrating Roma women on the labor market, the importance of enrolling Roma children in education. A brochure dedicated to Roma communities was developed to raise awareness of social inclusion and gender equality and opportunities. The working group organized by the transnational partner also invited representatives of the Roma community from VatraDornei to discuss on the importance of social inclusion of this community. The promoter had deviations in the initial planning of activities due to the change of the partner, the delay of the issuance of the permits and the contestation regarding the execution procedure of the works.
