Description

In Cluj County, the number of people with visual impairments is 24144, of which 1087 are children and 21057 adults. As of today, only 0.48% of them are working in the formal economy. In most cases, their exclusion from society is rooted in lack of access to education in childhood and adolescence. The project aims at reducing inequality and social exclusion of children and young people with disabilities (visual impairment) through participatory involvement of the public and private social actors in a medium and long term sustainable network in the community. The target group consists of 122 people of which 100 children and young people are with visual impairments, 22 policy makers and experts from public and private sector as well as representatives of citizen groups.

Summary of project results

The proposed project seeks to stop the problems faced by people with visual impairments by carrying out participatory activities such as information and awareness raising campaigns, involving networking specialists and involving children and young people in activities aimed at reducing discrimination. The objective of the project has been achieved and the activities have led to a reduction of discrimination and their socioeconomic integration.The results are Information and raising awareness of more then 580 sighted persons;8 information actions performed with public institutions employees, students, pupils, teachers, 10 dinner in the dark, organized for sighted persons;1 international seminar, more then 27 specialists from public and private institutions who was involved in the project;1 network responsable for social integration of children and youth with visual impairments;1 online platform; 10 workshop Parenting school;Involvement of 115 children and youth visual impairments with low risk of social exclusion. The project includes a support network of 24 carefully selected specialists from public and private bodies interested in the issues encountered by persons with visual impairments. Involving 115 children and youth with visual impairments in Cluj county in joint activities with children without visual impairments as the most practical means of realizing an initiative to integrate them: psychological counseling with the objective of developing self-esteem and self-confidence;developing life skills;joint activities with children and youth volunteers without visual impairments; personal developing;parenting school.
