Description

Masloc community (Timis County) needs to develop a strategy to address the current situation in which children and youth risk social and economic exclusion because of their low level of education. The main objective of the project is to improve the situation of children and youth at risk, with a special focus on Roma ethnics, through active involvement of 40 children, 60 youth and 100 parents and tutors in the community; development of intervention as a model of a Local Action Centre; training of 134 specialists from Timis and Mehedinti Counties and promoting the model as local public policy in the two counties. The project proposes an integrated approach of vulnerable groups so they would become a resource for community development.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to improve the situation of vulnerable children and youth at risk (with a focus on Roma children) from Timiș County, mainly Mașloc – Alioș area, in order to achieve their social inclusion. The project activities were realized using a mode called Local Action Center, created after studying the needs and the social and cultural behavior of the communities from the area, in order to identify functional models to which the children and youths respond better. In order to disseminate the Local Action Center model, there were held seminars for 174 specialists which work with children and youth at risk. Within the center created there were developed educational, social and intercultural activities for 55 children (out of which 24 Roma) and 75 youths (out of which 26 Roma) and social services for the community members (100 parents and communities members). Within the project, based on the identified needs, there was rehabilitated and equipped the building especially designed for the project activities.
