Description

Increasingly, Roma people and young people from disadvantaged communities distance themselves from society and go beyond the systems of education, training and employment. The main objective is to facilitate the social inclusion of youth belonging to vulnerable groups, by combating discriminatory practices and by promoting social diversity and equal opportunities. The beneficiaries will be 1000 people belonging to vulnerable groups, public authorities, policy makers, experts and practitioners, NGOs concerned with social inclusion and combating discrimination. The project will promote a culture of non-discrimination through an awareness raising campaign on the issue of discrimination and its effects; designing, testing and implementation of strategic and operational planning tools. The project will facilitate the transfer of best practices in non-discrimination between different institutional actors through a multi-regional network of exchange and transfer of good practices.

Summary of project results

The project overall objective was to facilitate social inclusion of young people out of employment, education and training systems, particularly of those belonging to vulnerable groups, by combating discriminatory practices and by promoting social diversity and equal opportunities in the relationship between members of these groups and public authorities. The direct beneficiaries of the project were 240 children and 860 youth belonging to vulnerable groups, public authorities, policy makers, 230 experts and specialists, non-governmental organizations concerned with social inclusion and combating discrimination, as well as employers in the regions covered by the project. The project aimed to promote a culture of non-discrimination among targeted communities (24 communes from 6 Counties from South Romania) through: an awareness campaign on the issue of discrimination and its effects; designing, testing and implementation of strategic and operational planning tools (2 regional strategies, 24 local action plans, 1 implementation methodology of action plans and guidelines for non-discrimination). During the awareness campaign on the issue of discrimination and its effects there were organized 6 regional seminars for 120 specialists which work directly with the youth at risk and also there were organized information meetings with about 860 youths. Also there were organized thematic debates on anti-discriminations in 12 schools from the target area and it participated 240 children. The project facilitated the transfer of best practices in non-discrimination between different institutional actors through a multi-regional network which functioned also on the project web-site and an internet platform where all members of the network registered and gain access to all the materials developed within the project and had the possibility to interact. For each one of those 24 communes there were drawn Local Action Plans to prevent and fight discrimination, employees of the local authorities were trained to identify the discrimination cases and how to handle them. Also, there were creates instruments that had the purpose to facilitate and to monitor the implementation of the Local Action Plans.
