Description

The project aims to contribute to improving the situation of children and young people in residential care, considered to be among the most vulnerable children and youth in Romania. The project will help improve the professional skills of staff working in residential units and will promote public-private partnerships and good practices in the field of community integration of residential units for children. The project will target 9 counties and Bucharest District 1. Moreover, the project promotes the creation of a national network of trainers specialized in child protection. The project will develop a training model for educators, 3 pedagogical kits, an online resources platform for trainers, a training of trainers course and 11 training sessions for educators (1,220 participants). In addition 10 seminars will be organised and a Code of good practices for public-private partnerships aiming at non-discrimination and social integration of institutionalised children will be drafted.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to improve the chances of social inclusion of the children and youth coming from the child protection system, by intervening on two directions: to ensure the professionalism of the educational staff in direct daily relationship with the children from the child protection system and to identify good practices of opening the residential unit to the community, through public - private partnership. This was a national project with developed in nine counties and a sector in Bucharest and encouraged the creation of a network of trainers which successfully attended training sessions. Within the project it was developed a tool for analyzing training needs and based on the findings there were developed 3 pedagogical kits and a teacher training model (including curriculum, course support and practical papers). Based on the new materials developed 20 local specialists from 10 GDSACPs and 220 educators were trained. 261 children benefited from the project activities, out of which 161 of them attended the workshops debates organized within the project. 20 seminars were organized on "public-private partnership for the quality of services provided to children in the protection system", with the aim of achieving a code good public-private partnership practices for social inclusion and non-discrimination of children in residential services and identification of good practice. An important resource was the web site developed, which contained text, video and other useful resources for trainers. The project contributed to the improvement of quality care and education of children in the protection system, and implicitly their chances of social integration.
