Description

The Romanian municipality of Tulcea is characterized by multi-ethnicity and multiculturalism: Romanians, including Roma, are living next to Russians-Lipoveni, Turkish, Ukrainian and Hungarian people. This particular feature presents a risk of social exclusion, especially for children and youth belonging to the more disadvantaged groups. The main objective of the project is to strengthen economic and social cohesion in Tulcea. The project aims to mitigate the social exclusion risk for children and young people in difficult situations, by promoting social inclusion, development and diversification of integrated social services to the target groups. Also, the project aims to increase the involvement of specialists from community services to better detect of factors that lead to social exclusion, at an early stage. 150 school children and youth enrolled in high-school (30 Roma), 170 parents and 25 professionals (7 Roma) will be involved in the activities of the project.

Summary of project results

The project was a partnership between the municipality of Tulcea and the Social Assistance Directorate, with the main goal to strengthen the economic and social cohesion in Tulcea county, a region characterized by multi-ethnicity and multiculturalism: Romanians, including Roma, are living next to Russians-Lipoveni, Turkish, Ukrainian and Hungarian people. This particular feature presenting a risk of social exclusion, especially for children and youth belonging to the more disadvantaged groups. The project mitigated the social exclusion risk for children and young people in difficult situations, by promoting social inclusion, development and diversification of integrated social services to the target groups. Through this project was created a day Center, called "Multifunctional center Sofia", to provide services for 150 children and youth, including 30 Roma. This children were involved in non formal educational activities, school trips, volunteer actions, and they also received food at the center. In project's activities were involved 170 parents and tutors and also 25 specialists.
