Description

In the municipality of Baia Mare, many children are at risk of dropping out of school, poverty, school failure and family separation. In order to improve children's living conditions, the project aims to intervene in three very poor communities; Vasile Alecsandri/Hotvon, Craica and Ferneziu Neighborhood, known to have a high dropout rate and increased risk of children being separated from their parents. The main objective of the project is to promote social inclusion of children by improving school attendance, establishing integrated innovative services and better training of professionals involved in these activities. The objective will be achieved by making a social support network represented by 3 centres to ensure the social rehabilitation for children at risk, including children with parents working abroad and children with special talents. The target group is represented by 230 children and 130 parents/legal guardians.

Summary of project results

The project was implemented in Baia Mare, were many children were identified as being at risk of dropping out of school, poverty, school failure and family separation. In order to improve children's living conditions, the project was an intervention in three very poor communities; Vasile Alecsandri/Hotvon, Craica and Ferneziu Neighborhood, known to have a high dropout rate and increased risk of children being separated from their parents. The main objective of the project was to promote social inclusion of children by improving school attendance, establishing integrated innovative services and better training of professionals involved in these activities. This objective was achieved through a social support network represented by 3 centres to ensure the social rehabilitation for children at risk, including children with parents working abroad and children with special talents. One Center was built in Baia Mare, by the Project Promoter; One Center benefited from rehabilitation in Nicolae Balcescu School and one Center was equipped in Mihai Eminescu College. At the end of the project, 348 children were direct beneficiaries of the activities developed in these 3 Centers, including 226 roma children, 157 parents, 120 specialists and 20 volunteers were involved in project activities.
