Description

Youth in Romania are at risk of social and economic exclusion due to lack of jobs and poverty. In the Northeast region, the situation is more severe than in the rest of the country. In Bacau County, labour market barriers particularly affects youth aged 16-24 years. The main objective of the project is the social and professional integration of youth at risk. This will be achieved through a set of integrated measures to be provided at a Resource Centre for youth at risk. 1000 young people at risk including 200 young Roma from rural areas, 350 parents/tutors and 70 professionals will participate in informative seminars, educational workshops, training courses, support groups and individual counselling, activities which are meant to improve youth's chances in accessing the labour market and to develop independent living skills and abilities. The project will cover a total of 35 rural communities, selected based on sociological research regarding the situation of the youth at risk of Bacau.

Summary of project results

The idea of the project was based on studies that revealed that youth in Romania are at risk of social and economic exclusion due to lack of jobs and poverty. In Bacau County, the labour market barriers particularly affects youth aged 16-24 years. The main objective of the project was the social and professional integration of youth at risk through a set of integrated measures developped into a Resource Centre for youth at risk. The project was implemented by the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection Bacau and covered a total of 35 rural communities, selected based on sociological research regarding the situation of the youth at risk in Bacau County. The direct beneficiaries of provided integrated services were 1215 young people at risk, 236 being Rroma people, 370 parents, 98 specialists involved. During the project implementation, they partcipated at training courses, workshops, counselling meetings. The training courses were selected based on identified need among young beneficiaries in order to support them to get employed. Through this project was also developed an online instrument that register and promote young people providing them access to job opportunities available in their geographical area, but also national or european jobs. The web page created was designed to be atractive but also practical, easy to be accessed by employers, providing information about every young beneficiary regarding the educational evolution, skills, abilities.
