Description

The project "Local Development Center - Ciumârna" is an ambitious project that has as its major objective: increasing cultural consumption among children and youth people from Ciumârna village, a small village in the mountains, populated mostly by the “hutzuli” minority, but also among the youth from the surrounding areas. The project consists of the renovation of a multifunctional space that comprises: playroom, mini-library, training room for the Local Youth Group and for all the other young people co-opted in the personal/professional training programs, exhibition room for all the contests and plastic creation workshops, handmade, recycling, reconditioning works of art. At a general level, the activities held at out center add more value to the educational characteristics of the game as basic strategy, which stimulates creativity and the expression of individuality, which encourages dialogue and collaboration, which promotes trust, enthusiasm and open-minded thinking.

Summary of project results

The project Local Development Centre Ciumârna is the first project of this kind in Suceava County and has proven to be an ambitious project that fulfilled its major objective: the rise of cultural awareness among children and young people from Ciumârna, a small village in the mountains, populated mostly by the “hutzuli” minority. The project was so much appreciated in the community, that also children and young people from the surrounding areas got involved. The project consisted of both renovation of a multifunctional space (45mp) and implementing educational activities for children, youth and seniors within this multifunctional space. The Local Development Centre comprises of: a playroom (equipped with different games, toys, inflatable play space, sport equipment, used during the Play Days organised by the Promoter’s Local Youth Group “4Kids”); a mini-library (school books, encyclopaedias, dictionaries); a training room for the Local Youth Group and for all the other young people participating in the personal/professional training programs; exhibition room for all the contests and creation workshop. The Promoter organised activities that were meant to involve young volunteers of the association and all the other participants in preserving collective memory and cultural identity of the multi-ethnic residents of Bucovina region of Romania, as well as to create a framework for younger and older residents of the community to meet and socialize. Various weekly educational activities were organised: play days for children; interactive games for self-knowledge and communication for teenagers; personal and professional training programmes for unemployed youth or for the young people who abandoned school; information campaigns on participatory democracy and combating hate-speech; information campaigns related to health problems and medical prevention; workshops for handicrafts that can be found in their living area (craftsmen from surroundings were invited to attend); creative handmade activities for recycling and reusing plastic objects or reconditioning objects; watching documentary films followed by debates on different topics; editing local magazines and newsletters; etc. 8 to 10 activities were organised each month at the multifunctional centre, and 35 to 80 children, youth and seniors participated every time.
