Summary of project results

Turul Madar is a grassroots youth organization that works in the field of education and volunteering. They aimed at increasing awareness and education of youth regarding volunteering and volunteering opportunities in Covasna county and particularly in Sfantu Gheorghe town. Therefore, the project implemented within the NGO Fund developed a volunteering programme for teenagers and extended an after-school programme based of non-formal education for children that are having social problems. Within the after-school programme 69 children from Calnic village and from Sfantu Gheorghe town (Covasna county) were involved. The programme developed children’s competences and their life skills during 2-hours weekly activities organised by 5 volunteer teachers. Other activities were organised within the after-school programme framework as well, such as: a 3-days camp for children, a 1 day educational trip, and 3 outdoor activities. In the same time a volunteering programme for 10 teenagers was developed. They had the opportunity to participate to an educational course of social media and photo editing, which was organised with the support of ‘Bod Peter’ County Library. After the course the teenagers developed an online and offline campaign to promote volunteering. The online campaign consisted in publishing articles on organisation's website about the importance of volunteering and about VIPs involved in volunteering activities. The articles were promoted on social media. During the online campaign over 6000 people received these messages. The offline campaign consisted in activities such as: presentations about volunteering in three schools from Covasna county; Volunteer Garden – the first fair organised in town that aimed to connect the NGOs from Sfantu Gheorghe with the inhabitants; the first volunteering game in town named “Discover” (having tea shops as partners and involving youth in a journey of discovering volunteering). During the implementation of the project, the promoter started locally the international mentorship program (The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award), within which 35 teenagers receive guidance regarding their volunteering options and desires. The project was successfully implemented, developing a community of teenagers and children involved in the community through volunteering activities.
