Description

Proposed by Cluj-Napoca Volunteer Center together with its partners, Pro Vobis - National Resource Center for Volunteering and IOGT Tippetue from Norway, the Volunteer management from A to Z project aims at increasing the organizational capacity of 16 NGOs from Romania through effective involvement of volunteers. This will be accomplished through activities of training, consulting and job shadowing in organizations with experience in volunteer management. Each beneficiary organization will prepare and implement a public event in their local community that will contribute to the "No hate speech" campaign and will be focused on promoting tolerance and fighting hate speech and all forms of discrimination. The public events will allow the 16 NGOs to put into practice the theory of volunteer management based on 9 steps (each event will involve a minimum of 10 volunteers) together with developing relevant competences in volunteer management.

Summary of project results

Together with the partners involved in the project, Pro Vobis – National Resource Center for Volunteering and IOGT Tippetue Norway, through the project „Volunteer Management from A to Z”, Cluj-Napoca Volunteer Center (CVCN) aimed, between 1.04.2014-31.03.2015, to increase the organisational capacity of 16 NGOs from Romania, through effective and professional involvement of volunteers in their own activities. The organisational growth has been accomplished by involving the representatives from the 16 NGOs in a progressive, coherent development process in which they could gain knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant in implementing with success volunteering programs. The 16 NGOs benefited of activities of training, consultancy and job shadowing in organizations with experience in volunteer management. In the end, each organization put into practice what they learned, by organising a public event set on promoting the fight against hate speech, event that has been included in the general No Hate Speech Campaign. The public events have been prepared and implemented together with local volunteers and constant support from CVCN. In this way the 16 organizations had the chance to put in practice the „9 steps in volunteering management”, practically developing and improving their volunteer management skills. In order to present to the audience the challenges faced in the volunteer management process, together with discriminatory situations that sometimes volunteers are facing, a social theater performance was created. „Occupy future” challenged, through the performance and the debate, the audience to search together for solutions to the situations presented. The increase of organisational capacity of the 16 beneficiary NGOs, as well as the theater play and public events gathered in the „No Hate Speech Campaign from A to Z”, have ensured a numerous set of direct and indirect beneficiaries of the project. 1746 citizens participated in the events.

Summary of bilateral results

Through the partnership with IOGT Tippetue from Norway, the project gained a deeper approach and a better understanding of the No Hate Speech Campaign. Through the direct input of Linn Landmark, the representative of the Norwegian partner in the project and specifically in the Volunteer Management training course held in July 2014, a better understanding on the importance of involvement in the fight against hate speech was established among all the project beneficiaries. Talking with the Norwegian trainer about the massacre that took place on 22nd of July 2011 motivated the 16 organisations to get involved in the National „No Hate Speech from A to Z” Campaign.
