Summary of project results

In carrying out its programs and interventions, the National Red Cross Romania relies mostly on volunteer activities, which performs occasional or regular activities within the association. The volunteers are the backbone of the organization, both when we talk about the central organization or the branches in the country. The project "Volunteering – an investment for sustainable development" envisaged the elaboration and the practice of a new integrated volunteering management system through trainings and experience exchange between volunteers and members of Red Cross - District 6 Branch (a branch of the Red Cross activating in a district of Bucharest), in order to increase organization’s capacity of intervention among vulnerable groups. The target groups were the citizens from this specific district in Bucharest, members and volunteers of the Project Promoter and from the other 46 branches of the organization, and volunteers from other NGOs. The project achieved all its proposed objectives and obtained the following results: elaboration of a set of procedures and instruments for volunteers' management, developing training courses and informational resources (tool-kit, film, and training), trained volunteers, increased number of Red Cross members and the advertising of volunteering benefits to the local community. As a result of implementing the recruiting plan, 521 new members joined this Red Cross branch during the project period.
