Summary of project results

The project addressed the exclusion of Roma children from rural areas, exclusion promoted either intentionally or not by adults of other ethnic groups. The project helped achieving an increased interethnic tolerance among Romanian, Hungarian and Roma people through promoting the intercultural dialogue among children from Ugocea region, Satu Mare County. Therefore, a centre was created, for children to participate in different activities in an intercultural environment. The Center and its activities were promoted in the community (3 press releases, 200 leaflets and 2 TV spots) and so it became well known in the community. As a result of the project, 30 children (10 of them are Roma) aged 8-10 developed technical and artistic skills (missile aircraft, navy, auto-models), in multi-ethnical teams. Other 52 children aged 5 and older (17 of them are Roma) developed artistic skills (modern dance, cheerleading, decorative objects). The main achievement of the project was that it managed to bring an inter-ethnical closeness in the region. The children spread the interethnic communication model among their family members and therefore the level of tolerance was increased. In order to support and continue the achieved results, the space where the Center is based was rented for 3 more years and the experts responsible for developing the activities for children extended their contracts.
