Description

The challenge and the need at the same time in Beius/Romania regarding geothermal activities is to provide more capacity building, networking and awareness of geothermal utilisation option and opportunities in order to increase energy security, savings and quality of life. The pre-feasibility study of geothermal district heating will achieve: 1. Re-evaluate and update the production potential of the Beius geothermal resource and update earlier evaluation. 2. Increase the awareness of the local authorities, as well as the public, of the potential and benefits of sustainable geothermal utilization in the city and surrounding communities. 3. Evaluation of the potential increase of geothermal utilization in the city and surrounding communities. The beneficiaries and target groups of the project are the municipality of Beius and its citizens, policy makers, authorities. The partnership will achieve increased cooperation in the area of geothermal capacity building between the Municipality of Beius and the National Energy Authority in Iceland and other people connected to the project.

Summary of project results

Beius/Romania needed to create a framework regarding its geothermal activities, thus providing more capacity building, networking and awareness of geothermal utilisation option and opportunities in order to increase energy security, savings and life quality. The pre-feasibility study of geothermal district heating achieved: 1. Re-evaluated and updated the production potential of the Beius geothermal resource and updated earlier evaluations. 2. Increased the awareness of the local authorities, as well as the public, of the potential and benefits of sustainable geothermal utilization in the city and surrounding communities. 3. Evaluated the potential increase of geothermal utilization in the city and surrounding communities. The beneficiaries and target groups of the project were the municipality of Beius and its citizens, policy makers, authorities, companies. The partnership increased the cooperation in the area of geothermal capacity building between the Municipality of Beius and the National Energy Authority in Iceland and other people connected to the project, and strengthened its relationships with the mineral resources regulatory body in Romania.

Summary of bilateral results

Both the donor project partner and the project partner in the beneficiary country (NAMR) had a crucial contribution and involvement to/in the study, by drafting, together with the PP, the Pre-Feasibility Study report, based on data access and process provided by NAMR. On-site visits and data collection, final meetings, seminars and results dissemination have been closely and jointly organized. These bilateral relations will be further strengthened by increased cooperation in the area of geothermal capacity building and by sharing results regarding geothermal utilisation, increasing knowledge and mutual understanding of geothermal options and possibilities.
