Description

After a careful diagnostic, this project will implement several activities to empower groups of youngsters for social inclusion and civic engagement, promoting pathways for integration into the labour market. It will define, implement and set in motion a network of institutions for the promotion of training, employability, entrepreneurship and job creation for the youth.

Summary of project results

The assessment of the Europe 2020 Growth Strategy on “Skills mismatches and labour mobility” shows that the skill mismatch index has increased in Europe, especially in Portugal. McKinsey & Company “Education to Employment: Getting Europe's Youth into Work” concludes that: young people are not being prepared in cross-cutting/soft skills; employers report their dislike on that; employers feel the need to invest in order to overcome the lack of employee skills (whenever possible); the most common soft skills required are leadership, creativity, teamwork, communication / assertiveness, work ethics and problem solving; greater importance is attached to transversal competences in the recruitment and selection process. Despite unemployment, many companies find it hard to find people with the profile and talent they need. The project involved 282 young people of 4 schools in training actions for employability and successfully trained 128 young adults on entrepreneurship. 155 professionals and members of local employability networks were trained in 5 different actions in various municipalities of the country. A job matching web platform was set up as well as 9 employability local networks in several municipalities (most of them are inter-municipal networks). As a significant outcome 6 NGOs are now dealing with employability issues and are involved in local employability networks. All initial targets have been surpassed. The NGO reports improvements in capacity-building, namely a legacy composed of experience and learning regarding new community intervention models.
