Description

A beneficiary of 10/NMF project “New challenges to SIS users connected with SIS II implementation” run in the period between 1 July 2014 and 30 April 2016 is The Police Commander-in-Chief. The project objective is to improve the knowledge and skills of Police officers and employees as well as other SIS users as regards the functioning of SIS II: practical aspects of using the new functionality, among others enclosing electronic forms of EAW, fingerprint data, photographs, creating connections between entries. In addition, the project will improve professional qualifications of regional unit policemen, operators in the SIRENE Offices in terms of language skills and specialized knowledge. The project result will include more effective use of SIS II, fewer number of errors made by SIS II users, improved data entry standards, and in consequence - the higher level of security within the Schengen area. Main actions in the project include international and national conferences-workshops, discussion panels, language and specialist training (in legal advisory services, fingerprint and biological research and practical aspects of work with SIS II).

Summary of project results

The main goal of the project was to enhance abilities and the level of knowledge of Police officers and employees as well as users of SIS regarding possibilities related to international cooperation, information channels, practical aspects of SIS II and the update of law and procedures knowledge. Within the framework of the project, 13 conferences on SIS, including 4 international have been organized. The participants were e.g. member states experts, European Commission, EU-LISA, Border Guards, Police and The Office for Foreigners representatives. Also 2 seminars have been prepared on: - Practical aspects of SIS use, - The raise of effectivity of the information exchange by SIS/SIRENE, Interpol and Europol. In those, 884 participants take part. Moreover, the project contained trainings on e.g.: - technical fingerprints knowledge, - legal assistance in criminal cases, - practical SIS II use, - protection of personal data, - information exchange by new police channels. In 118 series of trainings, 2904 participants take part. Additionally, 3283 participants ended language courses.
