Description

The aim is to prevent incidences of respiratory diseases linked to smoking by increasing early detection and improving awareness of the harmful effects of smoking. According to the results of the diagnosis in the model health evaluations of residents of Ostróda county, the most important areas of intervention are chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial diseases correlated with smoking. This project is needed because people in Ostróda District have limited access to specialists in pulmonology and pulmonary diseases, and because of the existing problems, such as long queues, including for basic diagnostic tests. The target group are those addicted to nicotine aged 35 - 65, who have not been diagnosed with respiratory diseases. In the frame of the planned activities 1,500 people will benefit from prophylactic tests and medical consultations. 100 people will benefit from rehabilitation trips, including smoking cessation through the use of psychotherapy. 30 nurses will be trained in methods to assist patients quitting smoking. The project will contribute to the earlier detection of respiratory diseases and the implementation of treatment needed.
