There is low awareness among the Strzelin County inhabitants about cardiovascular disease (CVD) as a result of atherosclerosis, bad diagnosis and infrequent medical examinations, with the highest mortality rate due to CVD in the County. The project will contribute to a decrease of mortality rate by prevention of CVD as a complication of atherosclerosis among the County inhabitants through the planned actions, e.g. prophylactic and promotion leading to an increase of awareness and knowledge on atherosclerosis risk factors.The target audience of prophylactic are the County inhabitants at 35+ years old; promotion is dedicated to the whole County population. Multiplier effect: within NFM the County Council via the PPSSN Centre will continue prophylactic and education. Other steps: using a mobile laboratory once a year for medical tests for the County inhabitants; building strong relationship between project participants; promoting project results via a website. The project rates will be achieved by successful implementation of all planned actions within the prophylactic and promotion program.
Summary of project results
PL13-0003 project called Education, promotion and prevention – effective actions against cardiovascular diseases in Strzelin County was implemented by Strzelin County from March 2015 till April 2017. Total eligible project cost amounted to 2 370 381 PLN. NFM grant amounted to 2 014 824 PLN. The objective of the project was prevention of cardiovascular diseases among Strzelin County through preventing and improving their awareness and knowledge of risk factors. The project was implemented successfully – all project results and indicators are achieved, some are even exceeded. The project contributed to a decrease of the mortality rate by the prevention of CVD as a complication of atherosclerosis among the County inhabitants through the planned actions, e.g. prophylactic and promotion leading to an increase of awareness and knowledge on atherosclerosis risk factors. The target audience of prophylactic were the County and neighbouring Counties inhabitants aged over 25 (25+); promotion was dedicated to the whole County population. Considering health, social and educational needs and the most need to support the prevention and promotion of health lifestyle, special attention was paid to the group of the elderly aged over 60 (60+) and rural populations. Activities implemented within the project: Preventive examinations at basic examination stage were carried out for over 5000 people. The project involved a mobile laboratory that reached each of 130 villages in the county. Examinations were also carried out at the laboratory of the Strzelin Medical Centre. The tests results were analysed by doctors and after that preventive examination cards were completed to evaluate individual cardiovascular risk factors. Inhabitants with the highest risk were qualified for the in-depth test stage. These examinations covered 1708 people. Other activities implemented within the project included professional trainings of running and Nordic walking, promotion and information campaign popularizing the project, cardiovascular prevention education campaign, running picnic for 200 runners of any age, healthy lifestyle event (white picnic), a website dedicated to inform on project actions and their results.
