Summary of project results

The main goal of the project was to protect and enhance the potential of Kraków’s cultural heritage represented by the Łaźnia Nowa Theatre, and by this contributing to the development of culture in the region to strengthen the position of Kraków and Małopolska as important centres on the cultural map of Europe, increase the tourist attractiveness of the region and promote social and economic development. Thanks to the project, the Łaźnia Nowa Theatre has become a modern institution of culture, ready to cooperate with prominent stage directors and artists, attracting the best world performances and offering educational activities to the community. The key problem solved by the project is the lack of the Theatre’s adequate infrastructure and equipment, which significantly hampered cooperation with the leading creators of the Polish and world theatre, whose work was based on the modern technologies, and practically prevented outdoor projects which increase community participation and enjoy great interest of residents. Consequently, a huge artistic potential of the Theatre remained underused. The project goals were in line with the strategic documents at the European, national and regional levels, in particular the goals of the Strategy of Culture Development in Kraków 2010-2014 and the Kraków Development Strategy, which have been conceived to promote Kraków as the seat of modern culture institutions and a creative city, which added to its great cultural heritage and cultural awareness of local residents.
