Description

The aim of the project is to improve access to and dissemination of thematic spatial information. The information is developed and provided for by the service of geodetic and cartographic database. This includes developing a model of spatial data, and improving the exchange of information on environmental status and trends between the Beneficiary States and the other EU Member States. The project will strengthen the capacity of the competent authorities in the field of environmental planning. The project addresses these challenges through improved data models, spatial information, and technologies implemented in the field of multi-resolution database on the environment. Target groups: Geodetic and cartographic centers, National Water Management Authority and other centers working on spatial data processing. Donor partner: Norwegian Mapping Authority "Kartverket". Role of partner: Consultations on the implementation of spatial data model and management system.

Summary of project results

The objectives of the project have been achieved. In order to expand the server infrastructure, new computer hardware was purchased for the project. The National Topographic Database Management System for the management of hydrographic data and spatial data has been expanded. The model of collecting and processing of spatial data concerning the natural environment (base) in the aspect of cartographic thematic studies in the form of hydrographic maps has been improved and made available. Several training were organized and conducted for public administration employees, environmental authorities and employees of the Geodetic and Cartographic Service concerning the use and practical measure of hydrographic databases and cartographic thematic studies in the form of digital hydrographic maps (being made within the project). The "Best Practices" of hydrographic data have been developed. 150 people participated in the trainings.

Summary of bilateral results

As part of the project, two visits were carried out during which Polish and Norwegian experiences were exchanged in the field of creating, sharing and using thematic spatial databases using modern IT technology solutions. Thanks to study visits, cooperation between Polish and Norwegian experts in the field of technical potential and the use of services provided by public administration has been strengthened. In addition, during the visits, the current situation and plans for the creation and use of thematic databases on selected areas for environmental protection, water monitoring, and regional planning in connection with the implementation of the INSPIRE Directive were reviewed. Based on the experience gained, it can be safely stated that cooperation with other countries is indispensable in the implementation of projects related to spatial data. Exchanging experiences can help in determining the scope and level of detail of data and related services.
