Description

RK Metāls group is one of the largest manufacturers of steel building structures and products of machinery solutions in the Baltics The main areas of activities include steel structures, stell design, machinery solutions, project development, production, installation and logistics. Within the framework of the project there is a plan to acquire new equipment and significantly decrease the environmental impact of the production process. The new products that will be manufactured as a result of implementation of the project are, a) sorting scoop of an excavator, b) stainless steel facades thicker than 12 mm and c) aluminium facades thicker than 8 mm. After implementation of the project the company will be able to manufacture products from thicker metal, which the company is currently unable to ensure. The use of the new equipment for manufacturing of the products will significantly decrease environmental impact and reduce the company's CO2 emissions, since the production process will require less electrical power than is consumed by the equipment currently at the disposal of the company.

Summary of project results

Through the project RK Metāls bought three new equipment types: a digitally controlled hydraulic bending press for bending small size metals, a laser cutting device for production of assembly parts of final assembly and manufacturing of the facade elements from the metal sheets and finally a measuring arm meant to measure geometry of final assembly of the product. The new set of equipment enables the company to produce several new products - sorting scoops of an excavator, stainless steel facades thicker than 12 mm, and aluminium facades thicker than 8 mm. These products have a noticeably lower environmental impact compared to the traditional products manufactured by the company. In total, the project reduced the company's CO2 emissions by about136 417 kgCO2/year comparing with previous existing equipment.
