Description

The project aims to integrate Latvian national minorities - Roma and Russian – into the civil and socio-economic society as well as promote intercultural dialogue between the majority and national minority population. The project target group consists of 82 national minority members and 40 national majority members in Kurzeme region. The project activities include an innovative 10-lesson course "Understand the country you live in", a simulation game "Make decisions in Latvia" with the majority and minority members, video short story series "I live in Latvia", with the aim to develop intercultural dialogue and tolerance, to reduce discrimination and stereotypes between the majority and minority populations, as well as motivating Roma community for education and improving quality of life, Latvian language courses in spoken and written language organized in 3 cities in Kurzeme region, an informative afternoon "Latvian citizenship” to non-citizens living in Ventspils, volunteering opportunity identification and targeted youth involvement in it.

Summary of project results

PROJECT TARGET: The integration of Latvian national minorities - Roma and Russian – into the civil and socio-economic society as well as the promotion of intercultural dialogue between the majority and national minority population. PROJECT TARGET GROUP: 259 people in Kurzeme region, include 173 national minorities and 86 the majority nation. LOCATION: Kandava, Kuldīga, Liepāja, Sabile, Saldus, Ventspils PROJECT PARTNERS: project involved one partner – NGO “Ventspils Youth council“ ACTIVITIES AND RESULTS: • An innovative 10-lesson course on "Understand the country you live in." 184 participants. • Innovative simulation game "Make decisions in Latvia" with the majority and minority members. 27 participants. • Video short story series "I live in Latvia", with the aim to develop intercultural dialogue and tolerance, to reduce discrimination and stereotypes between the majority and minority populations, as well as motivating Roma community for education and improving quality of life. 23 video. • Latvian language courses in spoken and written language organized in 3 cities in Kurzeme region. 62 participants. • Informative afternoon "Latvian citizenship” to non-citizens living in Ventspils. 24 participants. • Volunteering opportunity identification and targeted youth involvement in it. Raising awareness of it to at least 500 young people, and 21 young people involved in voluntary work.
