Summary of project results

The general aim of the project was to enable the healthy and active life style of young people who are exposed to social exclusion, mentally retarded children and senior groups, and to improve the quality of life in Kurzeme region – in the regional communities of Saldus and Aizpute. The project has helped to improve the quality of life of young people and mentally retarded children, and seniors. It refers to isolated rural areas where these groups lack activities that exist in Riga and other cities. The realization of these activities has been the beginning of improving the quality of life of these groups because a very effective work with partners was done. It has led to the work already started on other joint projects to maintain the results of this project and to continue benefiting all the participants. The improvement and increasing of the education of the personnel of the boarding–schools and old peoples’ homes (educators and cartakers) as the means to improve lives of seniors, disabled persons, children and young people - this was one of the aims of the project and it has already begun to bear fruit. All the partners have thought how to seek funding to develop vocational training projects to improve skills of these people. Improvement of the quality of real life of young people who are exposed to social exclusion, mentally retarded children and the seniors depends on their training and professional qualification.
