Lubāna is one of the smallest Latvian districts. Local government has difficulty in providing qualified specialists necessary for families with children. The Project aims to create a Support center for families with children in Lubāna. the Center's social rehabilitation services will improve the target group's social and functional skills providing professional psychosocial support in educational, socialization and support groups. During the project a room will be renovated and equipped adapting it to the needs of disabled people. Consultations of psychologist, physiotherapist and occupational therapist will be organized, as well as lectures about addictions and preventive measures, about child upbringing, healthy lifestyle and opportunities to spend quality time with one's family and a 3-day summer camp „Hand in hand!”. Support groups to addicts and their relatives will be created involving volunteers. Main project target group is social risk families with children from Lubāna.
Summary of project results
Until now there were not enough social rehabilitation services for such target groups as low-income and social risk families, young parents, families with a disabled child or parent, trustee and foster families, families which suffer from alcohol, gambling, toxic stuff, computer addiction problems in municipality Lubāna, so it needed to be developed. The aim of Project: to create a support centre for families with children in municipality Lubāna. In the frameworks of project in the premises of NGO „Sunny morning” in Oskara Kalpaka Street 12, Lubāna, municipality Lubāna, was done a cosmetic renovation, the room was made suitable for disabled people with vision and audition problems and people with mental diversity. The room was equipped with all the stuff necessary for classes and consultations- video projector, television, laptop computer, tape-recorded, seminar desk, sofa, armchairs, bookshelf, and wardrobe. Activities of the Support centre after the Project completion are done by the members of „Sunny morning” and the Social service of municipality Lubāna, together with Lubāna department of NGO, involving voluntary work. In the project activities were involved following groups of people: disadvantaged, low income, poor, social risk families, families in which a child or a parent has a disability or mental backwardness, trustee or foster families, families in which people suffer from alcohol or tobacco addictions, new families. During the Project consultations of psychologist got members of 76 families from municipality Lubāna. In the educational classes about questions related to children’s’ education, healthy living and a meaningful free time spending possibilities participated 32 parents, in the lectures and individual consultations- 43 clients from target groups, in the consultations of ergo therapist- 32, physiotherapist- 36 clients, 4 experts were trained and 2 Support groups for addicted people were created. 42 members of target families took part In the summer camp.
