Description

Too few in the rural population are aware of their importance in national social and political life. The project aims to strengthen the civil society in Latvia and promote activities of 3 NGOs; “Varini”, “Development Foundation of Jaunpiebalga” and “In the Turn of Centuries”, invigorating their institutional and human resource capacity by assuring financial support for regular and sustainable NGOs participation in the policy and the decision-making process. The project aims to elaborate a common development strategy for NGOs, to prepare a project for the National Youth Agency, promote cooperation with other NGOs, organize exchange of experience, train NGO members, expand group of members, promote volunteering, organize charity activities. NGO members will participate in dialogue with local communities in the field of legislation and politics. Main project target groups are NGOs members, local residents.

Summary of project results

The project objective was strengthen civil society in Latvian, to support non-governmental organizations in strengthening their institutional and human resources capacity by providing financial support for regular and long-term NGO participation in policy formation and decision-making process. Latvian Rural Support 3 NGOs - "Rural residents cooperative association" Variņi "", "Jaunpiebalga Development Fund", "Turn of the century". The target groups of the project were 3 Non-governmental organizations, NGO members - 43 members, 5 employees and 8 volunteers. And well as 66 local residents. The following results have been achieved: •3 developed societies development plans for the period from 2015-2020 •Organized four meetings with District Council Members. •Organized 9 NGO capacity-building measures: - "Team Building", "An individual's psychological readiness for participation", 28 participants - Seminar "NGO recordkeeping and accounting documents preparation, storage," 16 participants - Seminar on "collaborative team", 17 participants - Seminar on "Associations and Foundations operation and Development", 16 participants - Seminar on "Attracting Financial Resources and Management", 15 participants - Seminar on "Mentoring, its advantages", 26 participants - A seminar on "Effective Communication", 29 participants - Seminar on "The latest NGO accounting, tax law," 27 members - Seminar on "Internet Options NGOs working to promote" 19 participants •Promoting cooperation with other NGOs. •Arrange a meeting with district administrations and local authorities employees. • Organized 5 charity events •Organized 3 new members raising measures (spring event - bird cages fabrication and installation of two sports events) •Organized volunteering promotion measures (3 Environmental Cleanup, 78 participants). After the end of the project organizations will actively continue their work, search for new cooperation partners, making of coalitions. The realization of this project gives a positive motivation to find new opportunities for finance resource attraction in different support programmes. During the project, 3 organizations were working together – organization “Lauku iedzīvotāju sadarbības apvienība “Variņi”” from Smiltene region, organization “Jaunpiebalgas attīstības fonds” from Jaunpiebalga region and organization “Gadsimtu griežos” from Koceni region.
