Description

The fact that in Lithuania a number of obese children and adolescents is critically rising creates lot of concerns. Recent studies show that over the past five years the prevalence of children obesity in some age groups has almost doubled. One of the main reasons for this is physical inactivity of children and adolescents, which causes not only obesity, but also other health problems. Scientists emphasize that obese teenagers integrate more difficult into their environment and they are likely to face bullying. Obesity causes also various psychological and psycho-social problems, such as decreased self-esteem, worse attitude towards themselves and isolation from friends. Researches show that people who reduce body weight, improve their psychosomatic condition and quality of life. In order to improve the Lithuanian population health, it is necessary to reduce the prevalence of overweight and obesity, especially among children and adolescents, and encourage people to develop healthy lifestyle habits and create health-friendly environment. The projects aims to increase the awareness of teachers and teenagers about healthy lifestyle and influence of physical activity on the physical and mental health, quality of life and to improve people's skills of a healthy lifestyle.
