Description

Low level of adult learning in Šalčininkai district creates weak general competencies, first of all, intercultural competence of adult educators and lack of coordination of the development of adult education. This projects activities focus on improvement of lifelong learning system and adult educators’ intercultural competences in Šalčininkai district by taking over experience from Iceland. The projects result envisage: (i) two internships to Iceland with 10 participants in each organized in accordance with good practice in Iceland, (ii) recommendations for the development of the non-formal education for Šalčininkai municipality are prepared and (iii) cooperation event (international conference) for dissemination of project experience organized for 30 participants in Lithuania. Duration of the project is 12 months. The projects activities comply with the goals of the project and the target groups are (1) the representatives of the projects applicant and partners organizations, (2) the representatives of the Šalčininkai district municipality administration and local education division and (3) managerial, administrative, pedagogical personnel and representatives of adult education institutions from the organizations subordinate and non –subordinate to the local government. The main activities and results are the following: (1) Two traineeships (10 pedagogical staff; 10 administrative staff); (2) One set of recommendations for the development of the non-formal education for Šalčininkai municipality; (3) One international conference (with at least 30 participants). By participating in the projects activities the participants will improve their intercultural competences. Acquired new knowledge and skills will help them to respond to the changing needs of adult education system more effectively. In addition it will increase internationalization of trainings, raising new challenges for improvement of qualification for community educators.

Summary of project results

The project aim was to increase adult participation in lifelong learning by improving adult educators’ intercultural competences. The activities focused on improvement of lifelong learning system and adult educators’ intercultural competences in Salcininkai district, taking over experience of Iceland. During the project was organized two internships to Iceland (10 participants in each) according to the good practice of Iceland, prepared recommendations for the development of the non-formal education for Šalčininkai municipality and organized a cooperation event (international conference) for dissemination of project experience for 30 participants in Lithuania.

Summary of bilateral results

The project partner Jafnréttishús directly participated in the implementation of the project: developed internship programs and ensured the implementation of them in Iceland; consultd in preparing the recommendations for the municipality related to the development of non-formal education; delivered the speech about Jafnréttishús initiatives in the context of adult education and intercultural project experience in the conference in Lithuania. This international partnership provided moral support and allowed for more creative brainstorming. The wider pool of knowledge, skills and contacts were several of the reasons of very good quality of the created materials.
