Description

The Public Library of Ignalina and 19 of its subsidiaries in Ignalina District have accumulated more than 3000 regional studies documents – prints, photographs, maps, manuscripts, topic folders, yearbooks and chronicles. At present the Public Library of Ignalina faces several problems: accessibility to consumers, who want to use the materials in virtual space (the documents must be digitalized for that purpose) and the lack of experience when organizing regional studies exhibitions and presenting them to the public. Additionally, there is the significant problem of awareness of this activity of the library: only a small part of the public is aware that the library accumulates and stores regional studies documents. The project will arrange an exhibiton in the town square to reach a significant group of residents and visitors of Ignalina. Additionally, an exhibition stand on the history of Ignalina Region will be installed. Regional studies materials that will be prepared will also be used for educational sessions, which fill form the basis for the development of a regional studies educational programme at the library. Østfold District Library (Norway) performs the activities of accumulating, storing and digitalizing the regional studies documents.
