Description
The main aim of a project is to restore the southern building of a renaissance style residential Panemunė Castle which dates back to the beginning of the 17th century. The southern building is the most valuable component of the ensemble, as it has the highest number of preserved authentic features (materials, constructions, elements, wall paintings etc.). However, it is currently in a poor condition and requires urgent actions to be protected from further decay. In addition to the essential maintenance works on the plinth, foundations, walls and the drainage system, it is planned to recreate the 17th century kitchen‘s interior as part of the castle‘s exposition. Also, a tourism information centre will be transferred here from another wing of the castle, including acquisition of the necessary furniture and equipment for the purpose. The object will be adapted for people with disabilities as a special system will be installed on the ground floor allowing them to see panoramic views of the surrounding area in real time. The preserved castle, being situated on one of the most popular tourism routes in Lithuania, will contribute to the sustainable development in the area. Increased touristic attractiveness of the site is expected to attract more tourists which will positively affect businesses of Jurbarkas district. A three day training on the upkeep of of cultural heritage for the public will contribute to skills development and increased awareness.
