Description

The objective of the project is to create sustainable tools for increasing awareness on Tripartite Dialogue. The target group is especially among non-organised workers and employees in the public sector, who can benefit from gained knowledge and information. During the project, three introductory tripartite regional workshops will be held, and a new communication strategy will be elaborated as a tool for unions to address workers and the public. A team of "Trade Unions Faces" will be created and trained to become media personalities. They, together with union officials and experts, will meet the public in selected places to present the benefits of union activities and social dialogue. There will also be training seminars and a closing conference in which the project will be summed up. As a partner in the project, LO Norway will be a natural part of the management and implementation of the project, both as members of the project implementing team as well as by exchanging experience through the participation of experts in various project activities.

Summary of project results

In the Czech Republic, there are three main trends when it comes to social dialogue: 1) decrease in memberships of trade unions: strengthening the social dialogue and creation of a new communication strategy 2) prolongation of pension age limit – up to 70 years of age or older. Trade unions fought against it with the proposal for a pension age limit of age 65. 3) Slow increases in the minimum wage and discussions on eliminating the minimum wage. The project was needed because of the weakening awareness of the work, ideas and aims of trade unions. We needed to create a new communication strategy to convey to people that the trade unions are fighting for the workers' rights and to improve the public perceptions of trade unions. We need to increase the awareness in order to obtain higher membership and improve social dialogue in regions where this dialogue has not been not satisfactory. The partnership with LO Norway and their experiences with membership recruitment and work with young people was useful to meet our objectives. The results will be sustained by using and implementing the communication strategy manual tool through which trade unions will address employees, in order to establish and/or improve social dialogue on regional and company level.

Summary of bilateral results

Thanks to the bilateral co-operation with LO the project goals have been reached in “a smoother way”. The partnership has contributed to the improved knowledge and understanding of decent work issues, better communication with employees and raising awareness in the society. The partnership helped the project results to be more visible for the public.
