Description

The topic of the project is the issue of minority: the question of the relationship between the Roma and non-Roma people. The aim is to create a more sincere social communication with the juxtaposition of real, personal and documented experiences, opinions and points of view. The project has several components: social research experiences, plays and a situations based forum theater and concert. The target audience is young adults, but older people can also be involved. The project is not biased in the direction of either. The purpose is not to find a solution to the problems, merely to create an honest communication.

Summary of project results

Átjáró (Gateway) project dealt with Roma integration through arts. Creators feel that dialogue is needed in present day Hungary. During the project, artists of the foundation have set up a forum theatre performance for high school students, which is played even after the closure of the project. The main objective is sentitization and attitude shift. Sentitization was manifest during forum theatre performances - students were usually self-reflexive and concerned with the topic. A change of attitude was observable during the period of 8 months of workshops at Nagyecsed, where youngsters became more and more accepting, open and democratic. The organisation has learned and applied forum theatre techniques, which it intends to use for educational and sentitizing purposes in the future. The foundation expanded by four volunteers. The main advantage of the project was providing participants an unusual way of dealing with social issues through art, making sentitization more effective.
