Description

The subregion of Zalaszentgrót have been caring consciously and continuously for the local youth however this process was interfered because of several alterations, personal changes and lack of resources. The main objective of the project is to improve the competences of youth, to develop their advocacy skills, to activate their creativities and willingness, and to establish the Local Self-Government of Children and Youth in Zalaszentgrót with the cooperation of four neighboring settlements (Zalabér, Türje, Tekenye, Zalaszentlászló). During the project implementation 70 youth will be involved newly; competence-developing workshops, youth picnics and a series of competition will be organized. Involved youth will implement actions and mini projects. The target group includes the active youth, the concerned leaders and civil organizations of the four involved settlements. Indirectly the project reaches the friends, family members of involved youth and also the local citizens.

Summary of project results

The main objective of the project was to make local youngsters more active and to develop their competencies, creativity and advocacy skills. The project promoter involved 4 settlements (Tekenye, Türje, Zalaszentlászló and Zalabér) and 10 districts of Zalaszentgrót. Online and face-to-face promotion was realized by volunteers. Then professionals realized youth work events (23 times) among the local youth were reached, small groups were formed, the connection and attitude of them towards their settlements were measured. Local SWOT analyses were made which let the youth express their needs and ideas. During the 42 times competence development workshops 2-9 youngsters elaborated their project ideas, too. Altogether 14 mini projects were implemented for instance they organized hiking event (18 participants), organized the renovation of an old youth-club room (5 participants), they organized a community development competition with 43 participants in which the venue was ensured by the local government. The biggest achievement of the project is the establishment of the local Children and youth Government of the Settlement. The election was realized with the help of volunteers, 10 delegates and 1 youth mayor were elected from the 10 districts of Zalaszentgrót. The mayor swore the youth mayor, and also the delegates became sworn officials during the ceremony what was held in the boardroom of the Townhouse. The Youth Self-government got a place from the organization which was renovated and decorated by them. Since then, they hold their meetings and programs there. It is clear that youth became more active and the decision-makers realized they must pay more attention to this age-group, and as a positive effect youth are now listened by local decision-makers.
