The mayor of the settlement initiated to establish an association in the village. After a time the association has not operated. When people wanted to revive the association the local decision-makers made barriers. Many local families who earn their living with low-income public works and are in need of social aids are afraid of the decision-makers because if they would see or say things differently, their livelihood is in danger. At the same time many ideas and concepts are revealed whose implementation would be beneficial for all the local citizens. The main objective of the project is to make the association becoming an equal partner in decision-making processes. In order to achieve that the membership will be expanded, the competencies and knowledge of the members will be improved. The project aims to involve and activate more citizens so a new collaboration with another civic organization is expected. Another aim is to create a playground with volunteers (800 hours). During the project community programs, best practice visits and trainings will be organized. The community house will be renovated. The target group includes the settlement’s citizens (593 people).
Summary of project results
The mayor of the settlement initiated to establish an association in the village, but after a time the association ceased to operate. When people wanted to revive the association the local decision-makers made barriers. Many local families who earn their living with low-income public works and are in need of social aids are afraid of the decision-makers because if they would see or say things differently, their livelihood is in danger. At the same time many ideas and concepts are revealed whose implementation would be beneficial for all the local citizens. The main objective of the project was to make the association becoming an equal partner in decision-making processes, to expand its membership and develop the competencies of members. During the project implementation several community programs were realized, some of there were continuous e.g. administration – helping clients with CV writing, filling out forms, and social issues; Youth space – so children and youth could spend their free time animated thus their social competencies developed; community work – in order to keep the community house and its surroundings clean. 15 thematic community events, 4 best practice visits, a series of trainings about democracy, publicity and civic movements were organized. The project promoter launched a watchdog activity in which they encouraged local people to participate in the municipal meetings. Unfortunately this activity was not completely successful: it was not because on the second meeting inhabitants were asked to leave, then the municipality did not published the dates of the meetings anymore. However the activity was successful as the people went there, they showed interest, and after the concealed dates they started the so called data request in the public interest process that means local people became aware of their rights and their advocacy competencies developed.
