Description

There are several community places in Kecskemét where disadvantaged youth between the age of 12 and 18 can take part in different programs. The operators of these community places realized the problems of discriminative and exclusive behavior, the lack of motivation and the usage of drugs among the youth. The main object of the project is to improve skills of socially disadvantaged children and help them to change their view of life by special techniques. They can become helpers and hold drug prevention programs among youngsters. The aims will be achieved by interactive classes and coeval education in three connected sections. Cooperative partners in the project are the community places. In the first section classes in community places will be hold for the community experience. From the first section 16 young and motivated applicants will be selected who can attend at the second section. In the third section the applicants will implement their own project (about 8-16) with the help of the previously treated topics (discrimination, tolerance) and the learnt techniques. The attendants of the project will be able to use their new skills and viewpoints in their life.

Summary of project results

There are several community places in Kecskemét where disadvantaged youth between the age of 12 and 18 can take part in different programs. The operators of these community places realized the problems of discriminative and exclusive behavior, the lack of motivation and the usage of drugs among the youth. The main object of the project was to improve skills of socially disadvantaged children and help them to change their view of life by special techniques. The project promoter cooperated with two local Community houses. The project promoter announced the program, made several posters, Facebook posts in order to reach the youth and organized an opening event to inform others as well. 8 interactive, community workshop was organized for youth so they were easily included. From the applicants 16 youth participated in the peer training where their competencies were developed, several social issues were elaborated (e.g. tolerance, prejudices, advocacy, drugs) focusing on their own life-situations. Experience and drama pedagogy methods were used during the training. 9 youth decided to volunteer at the organization after the project. The youth had the possibility to realize their ideas as mini projects. 5 closed and 5 opened mini projects were implemented. The closed was ones was implemented in a hospital, a house of elderly and at the addictive support service house (which is run by the project promoter). They made and show a performance and participated in the club events where they helped the tended people. The open events were organized in the two collaborating community house and in a school where youth realized a fundraising activity. On the closing event the project results were presented. 2 publications were prepared: one about project planning and one about drama pedagogic games. The project had a positive effect on youth as their motivation for community activities has grown, their competences were developed and the risk of drug usage lowered.
