Description

Living conditions in housing estates don't support environment-friendly life, and illegal waste dumps create an unhealthy environment. The foundation organizes environmental programs for disadvantaged children in a school, for example: tree planting, recycling workshops, environment cleaning actions and swap shops. They also create an environmental information center and new green space.

Summary of project results

The project addressed the degradation of the natural and built environment of a slummy are of Kecskemét city, that have a negative impact on the socio-cultural processes and conditions – including not only the discomfort of the inhabitants but also the cognitive development on the children living there. In cooperation with 2 local primary schools and neighbourhood level CSOs, the promoter organized 6 local actions for the greening of public spaces (waste collection, tree and flower planting) and established small cultivated plots on the school yards. Besides, environmental information points have been set up in both schools and a new online platform has been started for the pupils. In addition, 9 workshops for students and their families, 2 summer camps for pupils during the summer holidays, one neighbourhood level flea market 2 family days were held. The project have managed to clean up altogether 8 hectares of public spaces, contributed to a greener living environment, and activated some 500 people who became more active and responsible citizens.
