Description

In this program the preying-chances of the raptors in the Tiszafüred sub-region was extended thus helping to increase their population and curbing harmful rodents. These efforts contribute to sustainable cultivation as well. The main target group are the farmers in the area, to whom environmental solutions were offered on the field. In the scientific research of the project students were involved as well.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to spread and promote the suppression of harmful rodents with predatory birds in the Tiszafüred micro-region. To this end, attention was paid to the involvement and persuasion of the farmers in the area: this happened partly by personal communication and partly through 4 information forums. By the end of the project written agreements were made with 13 farmers, but at least informal co-operation was set up with another few as well, in order to enable the installment of bird protection equipment and scaffolds (nearly 50 out of the first and 200 out of the latter ones were placed on their fields y the end of the project) on their fields as well as to engage them with such cultivation and field maintenance practices that are friendly to predatory birds. During the project, 17 birds were retreated, and biweekly ornithological workshops were held for about 50 students of 4 local schools.
