Description

The Roma Body Politics, exhibition, education –program and catalog is an innovative community initiative. It focuses on the unmasking of the majority’s gaze, its operation in the past and in the present to explore the connection between the humiliation and vulnerability of Roma and the depiction and representation of the Roma body. It works with Roma and non-Roma civil organizations, artists and scientists to create 3 domestic exhibitions, and 1 international accumulative exhibition. The knowledge produced will be multiplied and disseminated at the experts’ workshops by the art education program and by the capacity building office created for Roma artists. The long term impact of the project is ensured by the catalog and the wide-scope artistic and creative communications campaign. It prepares its target group and audience for the fight against racism, it points to the hidden and subtle mechanisms of Roma oppression, with special attention to the double minority position of Roma Women.
