Description

Young people under the age of 30 has a low social engagement to the community, and the active organizational leadership has an average of over 50 years old. A survey shows that the local youth are not satisfied. The inhabitants also miss the common work and the community life from the settlement. It is typical in the settlement that young people stay at home, surf at the Internet and watch TV. The main objective of the project is to make the settlement colorful, to maintain the organizations and renew their memberships. It aims to activate the inhabitants and make them contribute to a stronger and convergent community. Storage will be renovated and formed to be a community place for youth. One of the parks will be equipped thus it will be a family meeting place and a playground. Youth in their 20s and 30s can take part in voluntary activities. For a year several programs will be ensured for the youth: voluntary activities (gardening, tree-planting, painting), round-table discussions, and sport activities (Zumba). The project involves local youth between the age of 20 and 30.

Summary of project results

In Majs the social activism, community participation of the younger (under 30) generation is very weak, most of the leaders of civic organizations are over 50. The elderly civic leaders misses the active youngsters who could refresh the organization’s life as well. That is why the Association elaborated this project to set up, create a community center, a space with volunteers and elaborated, and launch different kinds of programs for the younger generations. The project also aimed at colouring the settlement, to enhance collaboration of civic organizations, and actors, and to make the local community more cohesive. The project was implemented according to the set objectives and two community spaces were created with the active involvement and based on the needs of local inhabitants: a playground and a gym. Thai box and Zumba programs were organized for the community and inhabitants of another settlements were invited as well. The project succeeded to decrease the migration of younger generation away from the settlement. Residents aged 20-30 started to take part at the community events organized in the frame of the project, and thus into the life of the settlement. Now the community sustains the playground and the gym from their own resources, and organizes programs their in order to strengthen local collaboration and cohesion. As a result of the project the self-mobilization of youngsters has started at the settlement as well, and the Association could recruited new volunteers, and increased the numbers of its collaborators, which contributed to the sustainability of the project results on the long run.
